China: Most Brutal, Disastrous Winter in 50 Years,
Where has Global Warming Gone?
According to Xinhua, the Chinese news agency, 77.8 million people are affected. Severe snowstorms killed 24 people so far, and crushed and damaged over half a million buildings. Power outages in several provinces left millions of passengers stranded in train stations around the country and caused over $3 billion in damages. Premier Wen Jiabao apologized in declarations to the Chinese people, expressed his regrets and promised immediate emergency relief. International relief is also in the works. But the dimensions of the weather catastrophe are so huge, that further considerable inconveniences for the population are likely.
