Pres. George W. Bush: Underappreciated - Like Harry Truman Once Was?
The more Americans get involved in the present presidential race, the less attention they will probably invest in President Bushs foreign policy - unless a major military or terroristic event changes everything. So far, many people believe that the foreign activities of the Bush administration have reflected arrogance rather than intelligence, and that the world is not better off, as a result of his 8 years in the White House. But there are other views, and they might change the way historians will judge Bushs policies in the future. Edward Luttwak is senior fellow for preventive diplomacy at the Center of Strategic and International Studies in Washington D.C. as well as co-publisher of "Geopolitique" and "Washington Quarterly". He served as adviser to the U.S. Secretary of Defense, the National Security Council and the State Department. He also used to provide assistance to the Japanese Finance Minister. Luttwak believes, that President Bush - just like Harry Truman during his presidency - is seriously underappreciated, but that this is going to chance in the future. His article was recently published by a large number of international publications. One of the English publishers in Great Britain was Prospect Magazine: "A Truman for our times".
